A Design and Build project conducted within a secure production facility for regular client, Rolls-Royce at their Derby head quarters.
The building was constructed within Rolls-Royce's Marine Operations site off Raynesway, Derby, built on the footprint of an existing demolished office building and within the Rolls-Royce site security perimeter. The site is an existing secure production facility which operates on a 24/7/365 basis. Considerate programme management and close collaboration with the client and wider project team were instrumental in minimising disruption to the site’s employees and visitors.
Construction comprised a traditional steel frame on piled concrete pad foundations, upper floors of precast concrete decking, roof coverings are of single membrane/ 3 layer felt on insulation on a precast concrete deck. External walls are of a metsec-type framing system with architectural cladding in aluminium.
The four-storey building is split into two wings of offices separated by a full-height atrium. The building incorporates zinc and aluminium rain-screen cladding, insulating render and solar control louvres. Glazing to all elevations was designed to adhere to bomb blast resistance criteria.Internal construction comprises acoustic-rated partition walls on raised access floors.
External works construction comprised of alterations to an existing access road and construction of a SUDS compliant car park area.
