Foundation/Frame/Envelope
The building is based on a cast-insitu concrete frame, with reconstructed stone to the lower levels and handmade bricks to the upper level. In order to accommodate the stepped back appearance, the penthouse level is constructed via an insulated steel frame with extensive solar control glazing, taking maximum advantage of the river views.
SOCIAL VALUE AND ENVIRONMENTAL
The building was subject to an Environmental Impact Assessment which gave due respect to bio-diversity and long term sustainability. Consideration was given to any potential flooding issues which resulted in the building being constructed with the ground floor above the 1-500 event level, together with a fully water proofed semi-basement car park. The whole building was designed with ease of disabled access in mind, with DDA standard ramps, wide doors with low thresholds and 10 person lifts.
River Crescent gave Nottingham Riverside Regeneration the best possible start, achieving an ECO Homes Excellent Rating with numerous sustainability features such as high levels of sound and thermal insulation, south facing aspect with solar control glazing, Brise-Soleil shading, wind turbines and natural ventilation.
