Office Electrics Production Facility, Wakefield

The building’s structural frame comprises two portal frames forming the main office and manufacturing area, with a steel frame entrance. The building’s exterior was completed with hardwood veneers as well as the same timbers used on adjacent buildings to ensure consistency in appearance.

The site is located within Calder Park, which is home to several operational industrial buildings. Safe access to other units on site was maintained via the careful scheduling of deliveries, as well as maintaining regular contact with the owners of each building to ensure all parties were kept abreast of the programme of works as it progressed.

Due to the nature of the engineering activities to be undertaken in the new building, an acoustic strategy was developed to meet BCO guidance and compliance with the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005.

Mechanical and electrical services were designed to service office, warehouse and manufacturing areas, and included factory area heating and ventilation along with Low-Temperature Hot Water heating, small power and data, lighting, plus security and fire alarms.

During the latter part of the build, as areas became ready to receive the client’s manufacturing equipment, we agreed a coordinated installation programme and provided support/attendance to facilitate the fit-out. This also involved attendant support from our M&E subcontractors to ensure that final hook-ups to the manufacturing equipment were provided in the correct location.

A high volume of the sub-contractors, suppliers, and labour engaged on this project were based locally, and we made frequent use of local amenities as part of our continued commitment to giving back to the local economy.
