Hertfordshire County Council - Broxbourne Nursing Home

Wormley, Hertfordshire
£10.8m

Construction of a highly energy efficient 2-storey, 77-bed care home including the provision of facilities to be used by residents, external parties and community groups.

Site Challenges

This new purpose-built home is located within the former Wormley Primary School site.

The home does not occupy the whole of the site and is shared with a new residential development (13 dwellings) occupying the eastern section of the site.

Delivered to BIM level 2, Hertfordshire County Council's objective was the provision of a comprehensive “as-built” model. During the design and build programme the BIM model was used for clash detection and general design development across multiple disciplines.

Foundation/Frame/Envelope

Traditional build with brick and block work in the main with some structural steelwork to the front central area of the build. Block and beam for the ground floor with concrete planks providing the flooring structure to the first floor.

Environmental

The project achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating under the 2011 BRE standards, with full collaboration with the Architect, BREEAM Consultant and Design Team pivotal to obtaining this standard.
