Mechanical and electrical works include nursing call systems were installed throughout the building, as well as access control security doors, LED lighting, and sprinkler systems.

SOCIAL VALUE AND ENVIRONMENTAL

Sympathetic to the surrounding housing development with timber cladding and brickwork render, the building was designed to achieve a high level of energy efficiency whilst minimising waste.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Part of Clegg Construction's commitment to corporate social responsibility involves participation in the Considerate Constructors scheme. This project was no exception with initiatives including:

Conducting a thorough resident liaison process - the new building is close to a new housing estate; to ensure all residents were kept up to date with the programme, we provided information through a number of methods, including door to door liaison and site specific newsletters. Our site signage also reflected the residential surroundings

Site specific traffic management plan - due to the residential nature of the building's surroundings, we ensured we minimised disruption to residents by creating a site specific management plan; this involved maintaining clear access to the site, providing designated parking and creating a delivery plan to coincide with less busy times

Provided work experience placements - we were pleased to use the long construction period to offer work experience placements. We offered Declan Watson, 15, a 7 day placement, where he assisted in health and safety management, checking the workforces' PPE, paperwork and maintaining site security. Experiencing a site atmosphere left a positive impression; Declan particularly enjoyed seeing the varying trades and the entire site's approach to teamwork. He is now considering studying Civil Engineering at University.
