Clegg Construction recently welcomed three work experience candidates into the business, all from local schools.
Three candidates spent a week at our Nottingham Head Office, gaining a taste of what it’s like to work for a busy construction company. They were given the opportunity to see the jobs which happen away from site, including spending some time with the planning, estimating, commercial and marketing departments, and were amazed to investigate the variety of jobs available within the industry.
Of course, all three were keen to visit site, talking to trades and experiencing the equipment available. Site visits included:
- Cedar Mews. Our student, Calvin Amoah assisted our health and safety manager in conducting a site safety audit, including checking all fire exits at our 73 bed care home in Birstall, Leicestershire. Calvin was also delighted to help our Engineer, Paul Conway, conduct some measuring
- Jack Hunt School. Students Tim Brook and Nigel Chiwanga attended a project meeting and were interested to discuss the safety issues related to working within a live school site
- Cygnet Care Home. Our students were given a tour around the site by our Design Manager, who discussed how a drawing becomes a reality and the integration between design and construction
- University of Wolverhampton. Another live educational site, both Tim and Nigel were amazed by the logistical challenges of working within a large, busy campus.
