Sporting fun at cardea pavilion

Clegg Construction Ltd has just handed over the keys to the new Cardea Community Pavilion. Adjacent to numerous sports fields, the £1.1million facility for Peterborough City Council provides sports changing rooms, an assembly hall, kitchen and meeting room for use of the local community of South Stanground, Peterborough.

This completion marks another successful handover for works secured through our EMPA Framework, which saw us appointed at the initial briefing stage. On appointment, our selected team developed a specialist design to ensure we maximised the space available to provide the community with a fantastic facility to be proud of.

As the project was built with the community in mind we used the scheme, which had a 33 week programme, to provide work experience for two students from Peterborough College. Both candidates worked alongside our dedicated site management team for six days to gain a taste of working on a live construction site. They attended health and safety meetings, looked at logistics and liaised with the different trades on site to understand how a design becomes a reality.

Our commitment to the building doesn’t end with handover, we have sponsored the Under 11’s Park Farm Pumas Football Club, who will use the facility and are delighted with their new kit.

Dave Swift, Construction Manager for the scheme, comments: “We wanted to create a lasting legacy with the building and couldn’t think of anything better than providing necessary work experience for two construction students who can now apply some practical skills to their academic course. I am also pleased to have sponsored the Park Farm Pumas, a fantastic local organisation in need of funding. The kits are great and, on behalf of Clegg Construction, I wish them well in their next season!”
