James Bates

Head of Design

James joined Clegg Construction as Design Manager in late 2022, bringing with him over 20 years’ Design Management experience and a background in site engineering. He has completed a variety of residential, educational and leisure projects throughout the UK and has expertise in Modern Methods of Construction.

In 2024, his extensive skills and knowledge saw him promoted to Head of Design, championing best practice and BIM innovations, as well as ensuring that all members of the design department receive the necessary training and internal support.

Outside of work, James is a lover of real ale, football, and campervanning. A keen cook, he makes his own cheese, beer, and bacon!
