Michael Sims Managing Director Michael joined Clegg Construction in spring 2021, bringing to the business over 20 years of industry experience with key expertise in commercial and risk management and contract negotiation. In 2024, he stepped up to become Managing Director leading the strategic planning of business activities that continue to deliver design and construction excellence to our clients across the country. Outside of work, Michael is a keen sailor who enjoys spending time with his family and two young daughters. Ross Crowcroft Pre-Construction Director Ross is responsible for new business development, pre-construction functions and frameworks at Clegg Construction. With a strong background in project management and Surveying, Ross’s project experience includes residential, education, leisure, public sector, retail, and commercial development. He leads a pre-construction team that includes estimating, planning, business development and marketing to secure new work for the company and to maintain and extend existing client relationships. In his spare time, Ross enjoys playing guitar and is part of a local country rock band. Darren Chapman Operations Director Darren joined Clegg Construction in early 2023, bringing with him over 25 years' industry experience. As Operations Director, Darren is responsible for the planning, production, and successful delivery of all projects. In addition, Darren manages aspects of our business, such as community involvement along with skills and employment. Outside of work, Darren enjoys all things fitness-related, including attending spinning classes and conquering walking challenges across the UK. Gary Shout Group Health, Safety and Environmental Manager Gary spent over 25 years in the Army before embarking on a career in construction health and safety in 2002. He is responsible for the strategic management of all areas of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality across the Clegg Group. Through Gary’s commitment and leadership, Clegg Construction has continued to maintain an above-industry standard health and safety record, surpassed challenging waste recycling targets, enforced robust environmental safeguarding procedures, and delivered client quality aspirations. Gary holds a NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health and is a Chartered Member of IOSH. When he isn’t ensuring a safe and clean environment both on-site and in the office, Gary’s interests include travel, fishing and supporting local village activities. Dan Manley Head of Commercial Dan joined Clegg Construction in 2021, bringing with him an excellent track record in effective procurement and risk management amassed over 20 years in the industry. With strong financial and numeracy management skills, Dan manages the procurement of trades and subcontract account management via a transparent approach to aid high-level decision-making. In early 2024, he was appointed as Head of Commercial, providing commercial support on all projects, with a key focus on risk management. James Bates Head of Design James joined Clegg Construction as Design Manager in late 2022, bringing with him over 20 years’ Design Management experience and a background in site engineering. He has completed a variety of residential, educational and leisure projects throughout the UK and has expertise in Modern Methods of Construction. In 2024, his extensive skills and knowledge saw him promoted to Head of Design, championing best practice and BIM innovations, as well as ensuring that all members of the design department receive the necessary training and internal support. Outside of work, James is a lover of real ale, football, and campervanning. A keen cook, he makes his own cheese, beer, and bacon! Sam Parker Framework/Contracts Manager Sam is an adept and committed contracts manager with 11 years’ experience in the construction industry. He has hands-on experience managing construction contracts, with exceptional knowledge of building standards and legal requirements. As Framework Manager, a key part of Sam’s role involves overall responsibility for the delivery of all projects procured via SCAPE’s regional construction framework – all the way from feasibility to in-use. In his free time, Sam includes keeping fit, countryside dog walks, and watching football. Mark Hyde Business Development Manager Mark plays an instrumental role in the growth of new business throughout the Midlands, Yorkshire and East of England. A key part of Mark’s role is developing relationships with clients and increasing the market awareness of all sectors Clegg Construction works across. Over the last fourteen years working in the construction industry, Mark has been involved in various education, manufacturing, residential and logistics projects; working closely with clients to understand their individual aspirations and project drivers. Mark’s passions include various sports, keeping fit, going to gigs, and being out and about in the great outdoors. He is a Trustee for Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and is involved in protecting our local wildlife, whilst helping ensure the public can continue to enjoy the benefits of having natural spaces local to them.
