The complete refurbishment of a Grade II Listed building in the heart of Derby.

This Design and Build project included the full repair and alteration of a Grade II Listed Magistrates Court into offices, local studies library, cafe, meeting rooms and associated storage and services facilities. Works also included the provision of a mezzanine, external facade refurbishment and landscaping.

The main stairwell and first floor waiting area has polished stone panelling and moulded cornices and the courtrooms have patterned ceilings and cornices with the majority of the fittings being original.

Architectural features, rich in heritage, include a ground floor entrance hall with a swept double stair with elaborate bronze balustrades, the main stairwell and first floor waiting area has polished stone panelling and moulded cornices and the courtrooms have pattered ceilings with the majority of fittings being original.

The judges' room has wooden panelling, pendant lamps, a polished stone fireplace and a cross-beam ceiling. Our site team worked carefully at every stage of the restoration; the heritage aspect of this project meant a careful approach to selecting sub contractors.

The magistrates' court dates back to the 1930s and is protected with Grade II Listed status by English Heritage. Before works commenced, we completed the full demolition and ground remediation works of the former Police Headquarters site including the provision of stockpiled material for the future phase of the works.
